BROTHER AMOS A. ELLIOTT JR. TRANSFERS TO HEAVEN 1

Brother and Sister Blue Knights,

It is with deep regret we report that brother Amos Elliott passed away on Sunday March 21, 2004.

Amos was not just the oldest and most loved member of Blue Knights Nevada 1, he was BKNV1.  He had held every office, done every job, carried the whole spirit of the Chapter when the membership just got too busy.  Amos was always there for the club, always did things by the book, and always got the job done.

Services were held on Thursday 25 March when Brother Amos received full Military and Police Honors along with rites from the Masons and the Knights of Columbus.  Blue Knights rode Honor Guard and were accompanied by Southwestern Conference Chair Larry Kunard and Officer Buster Hummel.  BKNV1 and the family of Brother Elliott appreciate the attendance of these SW Conference Knights who traveled many miles to pay their respect.

We know Amos is with Heaven 1 now, checking the by-laws, attending every meeting, organizing their runs, holding whatever office nobody else wants, volunteering for extra duty, leading the rides but probably going a bit fast for the slowpokes.  Since they probably don’t need gas stops on Heaven 1 rides, I pity the group.  That was sometimes the only break riders could get unless someone caught Amos and signaled him to pull over.

We never saw Amos without a smile, never heard him speak that he didn’t include a good word for his friends or family, never asked him to help when he didn’t say yes.

Amos Elliott was a man from an American generation nearly gone.  He was an individual devoted to duty and family.  He was a big man in so many ways that he personified the kind of character that is rarely seen outside of roles written into movies to portray the great American hero.  Cop, soldier, cowboy, characters strong of hand but tender in their mercy, individualists, bigger than life and just about too good to be true.  Amos Elliott carried himself with humility but could not avoid looking like he just walked off the silver screen.  He was always the leading man, always the good guy, always ready to step up if needed for a just cause.  Amos was the real deal.  He touched the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be forever missed.  He will forever Ride with Pride.

Amos A. Elliott Jr., 75, of Las Vegas, passed away March 21, 2004. He was born Feb. 27, 1929 in Abeline, Texas and was a resident of Las Vegas since 1954.

Amos retired as Department Chief of Police for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department after 30 years. He was also a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army with 30 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.

Amos was a member of the Reserve Officers Association of America, Okinawa Masonic Lodge #118 F&AM, Knights of Columbus, Las Vegas Protective Association, Military Police Association, Nevada Peace Officers Association, NRA, American Legion Police Post #55, Zelzah Shrine, Scottish Rite Lodge, El Bekel Police Shrine Club, Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, FBI National Academy, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1 and Gold Wing Riders Association.

Amos is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeannette Elliott; daughters, Linda Elliott of Las Vegas, Carol Elliott of Seattle, Nanette Shelton (Tony) of Las Vegas, Kathryn Elliott of Seattle and Laura Elliott of Seattle; son, Allen Elliott of Tonopah; brother, John Elliott of St. Hedgewig, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Interment was at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road. Donations can be made to the Shriner's Children Cancer Research Clinic.
